Shayleen views pregnancy and childbirth as normal life processes.

Shayleen is a wife, mother and Christian. She is blessed to be married to her best friend Justin and they are the proud parents to three beautiful children, Hannah, Avery and Dallin. Shayleen and her family currently live in Lexington, SC where they enjoy trips to the beach and attending Carolina football games as avid Gamecock fans.

She regards birth as a family-centered event and believes in supporting and guiding the process without disrupting the family's unity and power. Recognizing the uniqueness of each client and birth, her role as a midwife is to assist individuals on their journey through a normal healthy pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum by providing individualized care, client education, shared decision making, informed consent, and monitoring of the natural process to ensure the health and wellness of both the client and baby. Emphasizing the power of preventative care, she believes it is the best approach to avoid common complications.

Client Responsibility and Personalized Birthing Experience.

Clients choosing home birth are expected to take full responsibility for their day-to-day healthcare and the outcome of the birth. In the event of complications that indicate the need for higher-level care, Shayleen helps the client understand the situation and provides guidance throughout the transfer process. Respecting the desire for a personalized birthing experience, parental requests and birth plans/traditions are welcomed as long as they do not compromise the safety and normal physiological process for the client and baby. Shayleen has found that when a birthing person feels safe, supported, and secure in their birth space, they are empowered to listen to their body and allow the natural unfolding of the birth process.
